A WEST Tamworth woman will front court later this month accused of trying to smuggle drugs into a local prison.
About 12.30pm on Sunday, police were called to the Tamworth Correctional Centre after reports a woman was in possession of a suspicious package.
The 19-year-old woman was searched by officers and police will allege she was carrying a wrapped package containing what is believed to be cannabis and buprehophine patches.
The substances were seized and will undergo forensic analysis.
The woman was arrested and taken to Tamworth Police Station where she was charged with possessing prohibited drugs, possessing prescribed restricted substances, and attempting to introduce the substances into a detention centre. She was granted conditional bail and ordered to appear in court on August 24.
