The Cunningham Highway west of Brisbane was cut in both directions after a crash.The Cunningham Highway remains closed south of Ipswich following a head-on collision between a milk tanker and a ute early Tuesday that claimed the ute driver’s life.
The collision occurred at Mutdapilly, about 20 kilometres south-west of Ipswich, just after 1am.
The driver of the ute, believed to be aged in his 20s, died at the scene.
The truck driver was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition suffering chest pain, a Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said.
The Cunningham Highway is closed in both directions at Mutdapilly as the clean-up continues in the wake of the crash.
Police expect to reopen the highway before 10am.
They have advised motorists to avoid the highway where possible and seek alternative routes.
Traffic diversions are in place.
