Harden golfer Ben Glover won his seventh club champion awardat the Harden Country Club on Sunday, winning the four day event by 11 shots from runner-upKevin Hoppe.
Glover who has contested nine events in total wasalso theclub champion in 2008, 09, 10, 12, 13 and 14 and is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
He got off to slow start in the and was back with pack after the first two rounds, however hefound his range soon after, to cruise to victoryscoringa total of 316 over the four days, with Hoppe finishingon 327.
Rick Preston withstood a late charge from former champions Tam Kennedy and Craig Filmer to get home in the B GRADEby 4 shots whilst in theC GRADE, Brian Tredinnick found some final strength to limp over the line, 6 shots clear of Eric Kuhn.
Tredinnickentered day 4 in strong command by being10 shots over, but his grip on the lead loosened somewhat on the final day as cotter pins, axles and wheels started falling off in the pressure of the seeded draw,
In the Veterans Division, Kevin Hoppe finished better this weekend to be 10 clear of Peter Steinke.
Veteran golfer,John Hawkins won the McLean Gold Cup for the best nett score over 72 holes throughout the tournament.
The coveted McLean trophy dates back to 1932.
FitzgeraldandShea Win Ladies Foursomes Championships
Concurrent with the Men’s Final Rounds over the weekend, the ladies conducted their 2015 Harden PharmacyFoursomes Championships and winningin emphatic fashion by a total of 13 in both scratch and netwere Evelyn Shea and Maryanne Fitzgerald.
Shea and Fitzgerald have interchanged as champions, with this year’s runners up Jeanette Elliott and Toni Filmer and so a challenging contest ensued over both days.
Evelyn and Maryanne scored 86 / 71 followed by 88 / 73 for a combined 174 / 144 result, whichwas good enough to account for Jeanette and Toni’s 94 / 79 plus 93 / 78 which combined for a result of 187 / 157.
Nearest the pin on day 2 athole 10 was Toni Filmer.
Winners from allthe grades will receive their silverware andmajor prizes on President’s Day in November which promises to bea good day with nibbles, fellowship and presentations all planned.
The next major golf eventat the Harden Country Club,will be the Australian 2 Man Ambrose Championships,held over two days next month on the weekend of September 19 and 20.
The fixture is proudly supported by North Coast Holiday Parks and will draw players from all over the place.
