Rare opportunity: 3 Monash Street, Wombarra (pictured below), also has an undeveloped parcel of land that could become a substantial beachside home or dual occupancy, subject to council approval.A Wombarra property on one of the best blocks of beachfront land in the Illawarra’s northern suburbs is on the market for the first time in 60 years.
The 750-square-metre block, on the corner of Monash and Haig streets, is set in a dress-circle location with views over Wombarra Beach, Jim Allen Oval and parklands.
Selling agent Wayne Bennett, of Urban Property – Thirroul, said the rare nature of the No 3 Monash Street property meant it would be sold by price upon application.
“This is a unique opportunity and we don’t want to set an estimate or a price guide,” he said. “We are putting this property out to the market for potential buyers to tell us what they think it is worth.”
This year alone, neighbouring properties have sold for $2.265 million for 36 Monash Street (Belle Property Thirroul); and $1.95 million for 10 Haig Street (Ray White Helensburgh).
Mr Bennett said No 3 Monash Street was one of the best coastal blocks in the northern suburbs because it had parklands in front of it, giving it a never-to-be-built-out north-easterly aspect.
The property consists of two adjoining homes, which are in their original state and have been held by the one family for six decades.
“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and one of the last chances to buy an undeveloped parcel of land and put your own stamp on it,” he said.
“It could be a substantial beachside home or a dual occupancy, subject to council approval.”
Within two hours of listing the property on Thursday, Mr Bennett had a list of emails and phone calls to return.
